September 2006 - Sir Parsley visits Austin, Texan with Chandra

Austin is the “Live Music Capital of the World” so of course Parsley had to stop and listen to a live band performing a free concert downtown.

Austin is also home to the world’s largest urban bat colony. Over a million Mexican freetail bats live under the Congress Avenue Bridge downtown, and every evening Austinites gather under the bridge to watch the bats emerge. Here Parsley joins the crowd cheering the bats, which you can just barely see as dots between the buildings.

Afterwards Parsley decided to hang around for Bat Fest, a local festival celebrating the bats, where he met Batman and Robin in person!

College football is huge in the States and especially in Texas. Austin is home to the University of Texas Longhorns, whose color is burnt orange and their motto is “Hook ‘Em Horns!” Here’s Parsley getting into the spirit of the game, showing his loyalty to the team.

Parsley’s host Chandra used to volunteer with the House Rabbit Resource Network in Austin. They paid a visit to one of the rabbit foster homes in the network. Here is Parsley with Chandra’s partner, Simon, getting the latest news from Jesse, a rabbit waiting for adoption.

While the humans went off to enjoy a Labor Day barbecue, Parsley got cozy with Cocoa, another foster rabbit. It looks like they hit it off quite well!

Barton Springs is one of the largest natural springs in the USA, and can be found right in the center of Austin. With temperatures still in the 90s in September, Parsley decided the best way to cool off was with a refreshing dip in the springs.
