STAINES REGATTA HAS NEW CHALLENGING COURSE

 

Staines Amateur Regatta Committee, Staines. June 10th 2002 – The Committee today announced its new plans for its annual regatta on July 27th 2002, which has taken place virtually uninterrupted for over 100 years.

 

With racing crews now seeking more competitive and demanding course lengths, the Committee is lengthening the current sprint course of 500m to a challenging 1200 metres starting at St. Peters Church, Staines and ending at Silvery Sands. All winning crews will receive newly commissioned tankards.

 

There will also be a brand new event in the Jubilee Year for novice rowers - “The Golden Jubilee Challenge”.

 

Events will be running from 9.00am until early evening and access to the towpath for members of the public can be gained by the Iron Bridge adjacent to the Thames Lodge Hotel (The Packhorse), Wheatsheaf Lane or Silvery Sands where there is parking. There will be a full bar and catering facilities through out the day.

 

The newly elected mayor Cllr. Robin Sider, will be in attendance at the event and will present prizes to the winning crews
