Southern Classic Bike Show Report
In spite of an awful weather forecast, the
number of autojumble stands and club exhibits at the show was very
high. The new H&H
auction was also very successful. A coach load from France was spotted
and one French rail employee had travelled by rail to the Kempton
station, presumably whilst taking a break from his job with Eurotunnel!
However there were problems with crowds, queuing
and car parking. The Kempton authorities had made plans to use
the extra turnstiles but in the event their plans failed. We would
like to apologise to all our attendees for the frustration caused
by the long queues and will endeavour to improve our arrangements
for future events. We are considering, in common with other organisations,
the introduction of a “premium buyer class” with special
privileges such as early entry.
We would like to thank all our club exhibitors
for the enormous amount of effort they made to produce their stands.
There was enormous interest from people who had travelled from
all over the South of England to this largest event of its kind.
Judging was carried out by the exhibitors and the London Douglas
club was a clear winner with its replica of Graham Brown’s
shop in Godalming. The Scott Owners club and the Police Bike stand
were second and third.
Colin Hitchcock's entry was judged best in
the show with his superb 1930 BSA Sloper.
Contrary to regular mistakes in advertisements placed in OBM (a
Morton publication) the entry price for autojumbles is not expected
to rise next year!
